Jane has been an operational K-9
handler with Mid-Atlantic D.O.G.S. since 1992. K-9 partners: Libi 1992
- 1998, Glory 1996 to 2006, and Embers 2005 to present.
Embers Over the years, she and her partners, Libi, Glory and Embers, have responded to over 300 search missions involving lost person, victims of foul play, and victims of drownings. This included a 12-day detail to the Pentagon as a member of the K-9 Evidence Recovery Unit in the aftermath of Sept 11th . Jane and her partner, Glory, were qualified for wilderness (air scent lost person), cadaver, and water search. In addition, in July 2000 they successfully met North American Police Work Dog Association's (NAPWDA) requirements for area search, article search, trailing - novice, and obedience. In May 2002, Jane and Glory also achieved National Association for Search and Rescue (NASAR) Canine SAR Tech III. In 1999, Jane began attending the Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team (DMORT) Region III annual training. Based upon the knowledge she gained she adjusted her cadaver training to address their concerns on the use of dogs at mass casualty incidents. Jane and K-9 Embers are on Montgomery County's Urban Search and Rescue Team (Maryland Task Force 1) as a FEMA Canine Search Specialist Type II and are operational with MA/D for cadaver. In addition to being a K-9 handler, Jane is also trained in Search Management and is qualified under National Association for Search and Rescue (NASAR) as a SAR Tech II. Jane is an advocate for continuing education to enhance her and her partners' skills along with keeping abreast of new training techniques. Jane served on MA/D's Board of Directors for many years, including training director and president. Jane grew up on a dairy farm near LaCrosse, Wisconsin. She works for the U. S. Department of Agriculture and moved to the Washington, DC area in 1987. She lives in Rockville, Maryland. |
